Checkered suit custom made for Clark Gable by Western Costume, the chief costuming company for movie studios during Hollywood's Golden Age. Label inside the jacket bears handwritten information including Gable's and Claudette Colbert's names, and a partially illegible date. The trousers are stamped within the waistband, ''Char'' for character wardrobe and ''1920'' for period clothing in black ink and with ''Western Costume'' in orange. ''Mr. Gable'' is handwritten in black inside the pants alongside numerical stamps and notations. Suit is in a small houndstooth pattern in green, brown and tan. Jacket measures 16.5'' across the chest and 30'' in length with 25'' sleeves. Cuffed trousers are 35 x 31 and have been expanded with a wedge of similar fabric added to the seat. A few small repaired tears and moth holes and discoloration to the underarm seams of jacket. Good to very good overall. Purchased from the founder of the 20th Century Fox archive department.
