Iconic Captain Kangaroo screen-worn costume from 1979. Bob Keeshan's lovable Captain character was dressed almost exclusively in the red-jacketed uniform from 1971 until his hit children's series concluded its thirty-year run in 1984. Four-piece ensemble comprises the famous red jacket, grey slacks, grey tie and pink button-up shirt: (1) Fire-engine red jacket with deep pockets from which the grandfatherly Captain would produce such fun surprises as carrots for Bunny Rabbit. Single-breasted jacket was custom made for Keeshan by John F. Kennedy's tailor Chipp of New York & New Haven. Chipp label is sewn into an interior pocket and is typed ''Robert Keeshan / 8/3/79''. Features brass buttons, charcoal grey lining and white braided cord trim along the edges of lapels and pockets. Approximately size 40. Dulling to white trim and buttons, else near fine; (2) Charcoal grey flat-front trousers in approximate size 40 x 32; (3) Grey silk men's necktie by Paul Stuart New York shows some separation along seam to verso, else near fine condition; (4) Pink long-sleeved button-up shirt by Paul Stuart New York, approximately size 16-35. Near fine.
