Banastre Tarleton autograph letter signed, written from Whitehall on 19 June to British Major General Robert Brownrigg. Year is not stated, but sometime between 1802-08 when Brownrigg was a Major General. Tarleton references a letter ''which unfolds a new case'' upon which Tarleton would like a decision before Brownrigg leaves office, ''in order that I may give it a speedy answer.'' Tarleton was famously head of the British Legion during the Revolutionary War, operating mostly in the southern theater. During the Battle of Waxhaws, mistakenly believing that Tarleton had been killed, his men massacred American soldiers after they surrendered, after which the phrase ''Tarleton's Quarter'' meant shooting after surrender. Single page letter measures 7.25'' x 9''. Folds and light uniform toning, overall near fine. With JSA COA.
