Front page coverage includes the response to Washington's death in France, with the text of a speech by French politician Felix Faulcon reading in part, ''...WASHINGTON is no more! - the tomb has swallowed up the man who was the model of Republican virtue...all that that great man has done for the freedom of America; the number and importance of his warlike exploits; the generous inspiration with which he animated the French who fought under him...we, among whom the electric example of the American Revolution sowed the first seeds of the desire of Independence...''
