Beautiful copy of ''The Fables of Aesop'' from 1668, translated by John Ogilby Esq., the famous translator and cartographer known for publishing the first British road atlas in 1675. With 81 engraved plates of the fables, as well as two engraved frontispiece plates of Ogilby and of Aesop with his animals. London: Thomas Roycroft, 1668 second edition, reprinting the 1665 first edition that was destroyed by fire. Large book measures 11'' x 16.5'', running 211pp. Luxuriously bound in red leather boards with gilt embellishments, custom leather label and ribbed spine. Paper loss at bottom right edge of frontispiece engraving, and some mild foxing. Overall a near fine copy given age.
