Zachary Taylor autograph letter signed from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, undated, though likely when Taylor served at Fort Robertson, circa 1825. Taylor writes to a Marcus L. Ward, in large part, ''...Your polite note of yesterday, expressing a wish to visit the U.S. Arsenal at this place was duly rec'd, altho, not in command, it being under the immediate charge of Capt. R.H.K. Whitely of the ordnance department, there will be no objection to your doing so - Inclosed you will find a note of introduction to Capt. W. who I am satisfied will take much pleasure in gratifying your wishes - / I regret previous engagements will prevent my accompanying you on said visit, which it would have afforded me much pleasure to have done - Very Respectfully / Your obt. servt, / Z. Taylor''. Single page measures 7.75'' x 9.5'' on card-style stationery. Smudge to portion of letter, otherwise near fine condition with bold, legible handwriting by Taylor.
