James M. Porter, Secretary of War under John Tyler, document signed from 20 January 1844. Porter here verifies the accuracy of a 11 January 1844 letter from President Tyler to Lt. Schaumburg, which is copied verbatim in this document. Signed ''J.M. Porter'' at conclusion. Single page document on card style stationery bears the U.S. War Department seal and measures 8'' x 10''. Minor separation and small ink spots, else very good condition.
