Lengthy transcripts of three separate interviews that took place with Richard Nixon in 1958 as Vice President. 28pp. document covers an incredible assortment of topics to be incorporated into Earl Mazo's 1959 biography of Nixon, ''Richard Nixon: A Political and Personal Portrait''. Nixon gives extensive responses to questions on the state of the Republican party as well as his vision if elected President. On civil rights: ''I feel very strongly that (the matter of Civil Rights) is a moral question, much more than a legal question...you've got to put the whole moral influence on the President and the Vice President and everybody up and down the line...just passing laws and enforcing them isn't going to make it work. It won't work any better than prohibition did''. On foreign aid Nixon says, ''I have been abroad enough to know that in the next ten years our greatest danger is not military -- but economic and ideological...if you had to choose between the military and the economic, I would take the economic.'' He also mentions previous Presidents including Roosevelt and Truman. Talking about his potential presidency, ''It is not an accurate picture to say that I'm a fellow who is out seeking the Presidency every day of his life and all that sort of thing, because I'm not. I haven't been since the time I've been in there. I didn't seek the Vice Presidency.'' 28pp. document measures 8.5'' x 11'' with pencil edits, likely by Mazo. Some toning and staple holes to top left. Very good.
