Amazing reporting from 1912 of the sinking of the Titanic, in this bound volume of ''The Boston Evening Transcript'', comprising approximately 51 issues from 1 March 1912 to 30 April 1912. Before the 15 April sinking, the Olympic advertised their flagship vessel, the RMS Titanic in the newspaper no less than 39 times, with the last advertisement on 15 April, the day of the disaster. Also on 15 April an erroneous story reported that the Titanic was being towed to port, before the facts emerged on 16 April, when the newspaper carried a ''Titanic Disaster Special'' edition in addition to its regular issue. Sampling of headlines read, ''The Titanic's Survivors / Authentic List of Those on Board the Carpathia'', ''Titanic Foundered in Less Than Four Hours After Hitting Iceberg-Only Boats and Wreckage Strew the Scene'' and ''Impact with the Iceberg One of Awful Suddenness''. The stories go on to list ''The Rescued'' as well as ''Doubtful Names'', as well as the entire passenger list, with the names of rescued individuals in bold. Subsequent issues detail survivors' stories, the investigation, and post-mortem analysis such as ''Are We Safe at Sea?'' Large volume measures 19'' x 24.5'' x 3'', bound in canvas boards, with bookplate from the Massachusetts Historical Society on front pastedown. Some chipping to paper as expected, but text remains largely intact with little loss of content. Overall very good condition. Fascinating, primary source reporting on the greatest shipwreck of modern times.
