Sigmund Freud autograph letter signed with uncommon personal content regarding Freud's genealogical tree. Dated 21 December 1936 on his personal letterhead of his Vienna home, Freud writes approximately one and half years before leaving with his family to the United Kingdom, after the Nazi party's annexation of Austria. Freud here writes to Dr. Rudolf Kallir (a musical manuscripts expert and possible relation, given the letter's content), in detail about his familial lineage, including a distant relative who was a member of the Reichstag. Letter reads in full,

''Dear Doctor, I share your interest in family research, and I'll be happy to provide you with what I am able to contribute to it.

My mother, Amalia Nathansohn of Brody, deceased in 1930 at the age of 95 years, repeatedly spoke to me about our family relationship with Kallir, a member of the Reichstag [Parliament] at the time. According to her account, her father was a descendant (grandson?) of the specific Nathansohn, who founded the N. & K. company, and the first Kallir was his son-in-law. When I was a child, I still knew this grandfather, who lived in Vienna after having lost his fortune.

I have no knowledge whatsoever of any connections, as hinted at in your letter, between the Nathansohn and Freud families prior to my mother's marriage (in 1895). I shall be glad to take a look at the genealogical tree. / Yours very truly, Freud''. Single page letter measures 9" x 11.25". Folds and light uniform toning, else near fine condition. Letter in German is accompanied by full translation, and also Freud's original envelope in his hand.
