Samuel Adams military document signed as Governor of Massachusetts, dated 4 September, likely 1795. Adams appoints Calvin Lazell as Ensign in the Militia of the Massachusetts Commonwealth. Elegantly signed ''Samuel Adams'' below the blind-stamped seal on left side, countersigned by John Avery, Jr. as Massachusetts Secretary. Measures 15'' x 9.5''. Split along folds, with paper loss at bottom center. Overall in fair to poor condition, though Adams' signature remains bold and intact.
