Roger B. Taney autograph document twice-signed. Taney served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1836-1864 and is most famous for delivering the majority ruling in the Dred Scott case, stating Scott, as an African-American, was not actually a U.S. citizen. Taney twice signs this document, which appears to be a plea deal, and labels himself a defense attorney on the front, thereby dating the document to the early 1800's. Second signature appears on verso. Measures 8'' x 6.5''. Minor creasing and toning, overall very good condition.
