Robert Morris signed stock certificate for two shares in the North American Land Company, the speculative venture that put Morris, DOI signer and financier of the Revolutionary War, into debtor's prison. Boldly signed by Morris as President of the company, and countersigned by James Marshall as Secretary; Marshall was Morris's son-in-law and brother of Chief Justice John Marshall. Document is dated 15 October 1795 with stock issued to James Rees. Stock certificate number 2093 measures 12.25'' x 9.75'' with scalloped left edge. Small hole in R of Morris's signature. Light chipping to edges, overall very good plus condition.
