Robert Darwin autograph letter signed to the families' attorney and financial advisor, Thomas Salt. Marked ''Tuesday 13'' by Darwin, docketing on verso by Salt's office reveals the date as 13 July 1841, and postmark on letter confirms the 1841 year, which is shortly after Charles Darwin published ''The Voyage of the Beagle''. Robert Darwin's success as both a physician and investor allowed him to fund his son's research on the Beagle. Here he writes in part, ''Dear Sir / I have this morning had a letter from W. Higgins...W. Higgins does not live very near Shrewsbury. I was much obliged for the favor...the other day and sorry to cause you trouble. / Dear Sir yours faithfully / RWDarwin''. Letter on card-style bifolium stationery measures 4.5'' x 7.5''. Tear from red wax seal and small hole in letter, overall very good condition.
