World War II hero Rene Gagnon signed envelope, signed ''Pfc. R.A. Gagnon U.S.M.C'' to upper left. Gagnon was supposedly one of the six Marines photographed holding up the American flag in the iconic war photograph at Iwo Jima. Gagnon addresses the envelope to Miss Pauline Harnois, who Gagnon would eventually marry after the war. Gagnon touchingly writes ''Lots of Loving And Kisses'' to underside of the envelope flap, which is postmarked 28 April 1944 by the U.S. Navy. Measures 6.5'' x 3.75''. Light soiling, overall very good.
