James Garfield stamped signature upon an Executive Mansion card, mailed post-assassination to Mrs. Lew Wallace, wife of the U.S. Minister to the Ottoman Empire. Card is housed in a mourning envelope, hand-addressed by First Lady Lucretia Garfield, with a postmark of 30 October (1881) and stamped; Mrs. Garfield didn't acquire franking privileges until December 1881. Card measures 4.125'' x 2.75'', and envelope measures 5.125'' x 3.125''. Light toning, otherwise card is near fine. Very rare.
