Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother autograph letter signed, sent from Buckingham palace on 26 March 1949. Written on her personal Buckingham Palace stationery, letter is addressed to Margaret Douglas, the wife of Lewis Douglas, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1947 to 1950 and whose family formed a close relationship with the Royal family. Letter reads in full, ''My dear Mrs. Douglas / I do want to tell you how much my daughter & I enjoyed our 'canaster' evening, and also to thank you so very much for asking us. Mr. Douglas was a most charming and patient partner & I carried off my ignorant moves in the game with such good humour that I feel most confident & happy! It was so delightful being a small family party too, and I feel all the better for my first outing since the King had his operation. With all my thanks for a lovely evening, I am, yours very sincerely / Elizabeth R''. With original Royal envelope made out in her hand and initialed ''ER''. Three page letter on two sheets measures 5'' x 8'', with the envelope measuring 5.25'' x 4.5''. Light toning, otherwise near fine.
