Prince Edward VIII's royal tiepin, featuring gold Prince of Wales feathers surrounded by an oval intaglio of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the highest order of chivalry the United Kingdom offers. Blue enamel intaglio in the shape of the Garter bears its motto in gold letters: ''Honi soit qui mal y pense'', Middle French translating to, ''shame upon him who thinks ill of it''. Tiepin measures 3'' in length and nearly 0.5'' across the decoration. Some tarnishing to metal fastener at the bottom, else near fine. Provenance from Sotheby's auction of The Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor, held in Geneva on 3 April 1987, lot 178.
