President-Elect Grover Cleveland autograph letter signed on New York state Executive Chamber letterhead, dated 4 January 1885. Letter is addressed to friend Winfield Robbins and discusses appointments in his administration which he hopes to bestow upon his friends and reads in part, ''...your letter is just received and I thank you for it. I don't think there will be any reception at the City Club or any other Club in answer to the secretary asking me to appoint...I don't think I should prefer or differentiate...communications from my friends. My sister will go up with us. I want to start Thursday at 12:15 arriving B at 7:40 can't you go then and let us go on the train home with you. It will be an early start for you but it is a nice train to go on...'' Signed clearly, ''Grover Cleveland''. Letter on two pages, front and verso, measures 5.75'' x 9'' with two horizontal folds, else near fine. Includes original postmarked envelope.
