Large photo of George W. Bush during the infamous shoeing incident on 14 December 2008 when Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi threw his shoes at President Bush. On this photo, al-Zaidi describes why he accosted the former President, an act of defiance that would result in a three year prison conviction for assaulting a foreign head of state. This event inspired similar acts of political protest throughout the Middle East. Signed, handwritten statement reads in full,

''Everyone had been repeating George W. Bush's claim that we greeted him with roses, and the world unfortunately believed this lie that's why my idea was to find a solution in accordance with Newton's Third Law that 'for every action, there is an equal and opposit[e] reaction.' I chased George W. Bush everywhere so that I could show the world my protest by throwing my shoes at him. I expected to be killed for it.

He says I was trying to gain attention for myself, but I say to him I was trying to turn attention to my people who are deprived of their rights and murdered. It is peaceful message of protest against mass murder. I recently saw on[e] of GW's paintings. What a coincidence that the two men who have immersed themselves in war most deeply were painters / Hitler and Bush / Muntazer al-Zaidi''.

Photo measures 20'' x 16'', penned in black felt-tip. A few smudged words, overall in very good to near fine condition.
