Hollywood legend Helen Hayes' Pearl S. Buck Woman's Award. Hayes counted this award among her others as one of just eleven people ever to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. She was also the recipient of the National Medal of Arts and Presidential Medal of Freedom. Award honors Hayes for improving the quality of life for children and promoting cultural understanding worldwide. Bronze-finished epoxy figural trophy designed by sculptor Madeline Smith depicts a child seated upon a cushion and manipulating chopsticks, an homage to Buck's upbringing in China by American missionary parents. Plaque to the front of wooden base is engraved: ''The Pearl S. Buck / Woman's Award / Presented To / Miss Helen Hayes / November 10, 1985''. Buck, herself the recipient of more than 300 awards including the Pulitzer Prize for her novel ''The Good Earth,'' was the first woman awarded the Nobel Prize For Literature. Trophy measures 6.75'' in total height; base measures 4'' x 5.75''. Near fine. From the Helen Hayes Estate.
