Orville Wright signed U.S. Patent Office document from 25 October 1916, listing 5 patents for improvements to a ''flying machine''. The document reads: ''I, ORVILLE WRIGHT, of the City of Dayton, State of Ohio, do hereby certify that a certain mortgage bearing date the 9th day of October in the year 1915, made and executed by The Wright Company, a corporation of the State of New York, covering the following described United States letters patent: No. 821,393, dated May 22nd, 1906, for improvements in flying machines; No. 908,929, dated January 5, 1909, for improvements in mechanism for flexing the rudder of a flying machine of the like; No. 987,662, dated March 21, 1911, for improvements in flying machine; No. 1,075,533, dated October 14, 1913, for improvements in flying machines; No. 1,122,348, dated December 29, 1914, for improvements in flying machines''. Orville then signs his name in full at right. Document is co-signed by his older brother, Lorin Wright. Attached to the patent document are 2 slips of paper: a notarized document from 25 October 1916, and U.S. Patent Office record of receipt stamped and signed on 28 October 1916. Single page patent document has been stapled to large piece of blue paper with official stamp on verso and typewritten statement, ''Record and return to Alan. N. Mann, Attorney for the Wright Company, 5 Nassau Street, New York, N.Y.'' Document measures 8.5'' x 14''. Half inch tear to right edge, folds, pinholes at top left and some chipping to edges of blue paper. Overall in very good plus condition, with a large and prominent signature by Orville Wright, perfect for display. Very rare.
