Olympic torch from the 1980 Olympic Torch Relay. The Torch Relay tradition was begun in 1928, where a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece ignites the torch that begins the Relay, ending in the host city in time for the opening ceremonies. Torch features lamp-burning mechanism specially designed by Soviet scientists, which allowed the lamp to burn for 48 hours straight. White torch contains circular gold lamp component that is discolored from burning, white base with ''Moscow Olympics'' written in Russian and a gold handle with the Moscow Olympic logo. Gold circular component to the bottom of the handle allows the torch to be filled with kerosene. Torch measures 22'' long, with the torch opening measuring 3.75''. Slight dent to the underside, scratching and expected discoloration to the burner portion from use. Very good overall.
