Mary Astor typed letter signed to her agent, Gloria Safier, spanning three pages of heated reaction to the notes she received on her book ''A Place Called Saturday'', which was published in 1968. Dated simply ''Friday'', letter reads in small part, ''What fractures me is that they both attack the bones of the characters the essence of the story. And I honestly think the reason for their attack is that they don't know much about people...This is not being editorial, Gloria. This is asking me to re-write another book...'' Astor also goes into detail about a rape scene in the book, fighting back against her editor's wish to make the sex scene more graphic; she writes in part, ''Yum-yum! Boys, really! How Hollywood can you get! I'm sure people have a pretty good idea of the horribleness of rape...We don't need the tedious details of the sex act itself...'' Three page letter is signed ''Mary'' with a postscript in her hand, ''Oh and please -- I just can't talk about it over the phone -- I don't think fast enough and I just get mad!'' Letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds and light wear, else near fine.
