Mary Astor autograph letter signed regarding her novel, ''Goodbye, Darling - Be Happy'' and also her financial worries. Upon stationery bearing her Malibu address, Astor writes to her agent Gloria Safier on 23 January 1965, in part, ''I'm tickled that you...like 'Goodbye, Darling - Be Happy' because I've liked it for some time...But - I've got no check coming to me. The second installment of the advance was paid August 4th, or thereabouts. / That's why I'm in a tiz. I've got nothing coming in. Not even my unemployment money...I've revised and added and cut and changed so much that I've lost perspective completely, so when I get it back, I'm just going to ship it off and stop nit-picking! I don't know about magazines. I've been reading short stories, etc, trying to figure out what they like. I'm afraid they might not go for the back-street wife type. Magazine 'sinning' is pretty lopsided - murder, okay, adultery, no. / I do think it is a movie - although it would take the ingenuity of a Hitchcock to photograph psychosis from the psychotic's point of view. / Boy, is my next book ever going to be 'normal'! / Love, Mary''. Two page letter on two sheets measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds, minor toning and staple to top left. Overall near fine.
