General Samuel Holden Parsons signs: ''S.H. Parsons'' to an autograph letter datelined Trenton, NJ, 14 October 1785. Parsons writes to his son William after his resignation from the military, placing William in charge of business matters and informing him, ''...you may not expect to hear from me until...I arrive at Richmond which I intend to attempt through the Wilderness...'' He died in canoe travel four years later. 2pp. measures 7.25'' x 8.75''. Separation to folds, water spot and a chip to the left edge. Very good condition given age.
