Letter to Louis Weichmann, key witness against those convicted of conspiring to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, dated 2 May 1898, from Washington, D.C. attorney Louis T. Michener. Michener, former Indiana Attorney General, was influential in Republican politics and a close friend of Benjamin Harrison. Weichmann wrote a book on assassination events and sought information from A.C. Richards, D.C. police superintendent at the time. Michener's letter reads in part, ''...I will say that A.C. Richards lives somewhere in Florida, but I have not been able to get his address. Doubtless you can get it from his brother, Zalma Richards, 1301 Corcoran Street, this city...[signed] L.T. Michener''. Weichmann did find Richards and corresponded with him extensively in preparation for the book. Light soiling to 8'' x 10'' single page letter, else near fine.
