''Harper's Weekly / A Journal of Civilization'' hardcover compilation for the entire year of 1861. Articles and editorials cover the events leading up to the outbreak of the Civil War and the first 9 months of conflict. A wealth of etched illustrations by Homer fill the substantial 832pp. volume, including battle illustrations. One story covers the flight of Union refugees out of Missouri upon its secession to the Confederacy. Chapter-long excerpts from Charles Dickens' classic novel ''Great Expectations'' are also featured. Bound in marble paper boards with a ribbed leather spine and leather corners. Some loss of paper to board edges and leather to corners. Interior shows a stain to the top of the spine, scattered staining, and toning. Measures 11.5'' x 16.25''. In very good condition.
