J.K. Rowling autograph letter signed, undated but from 2000 at the time of publication of ''Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'', the fourth installment in the series. At the height of Pottermania, Rowling writes to her friends, Brenda and Ken, the parents of her ex-boyfriend Michael, whom she dated when first writing ''Philosopher's Stone'':
''Dear Brenda & Ken, / Thanks so much for the congratulations - I was very shocked but delighted! / I'm currently getting my breath back after the madness surrounding book four, and very happy to be home again. Now I have to brace myself for the announcement of the boy who is playing Harry in the film, at which point the Daily Mail will turn up here and hammer on my front door to find out whether I hate him or not (I don't - I'm delighted with him - but of course that's not what they want to hear). / Have just got back from 2 weeks in Cannes with a large group of friends, so am feeling slightly out of sorts at having to catch up on mountains of correspondence - but this is an exception, I was so touched to get your card. One of these days I will be in your neck of the woods, or you in mine, and we will have that lunch! / Lots of love, Jo''.
Two page letter on a single sheet measures 8.25'' x 11.625'', composed in black ballpoint on Rowling's stationery, listing her PO Box in Edinburgh, along with her phone numbers and email. Folds and very light wear, overall near fine condition.
