Edvard Munch letter signed, with additional handwritten postscript, dated 7 November 1929 in pencil at top. Body of letter is a mimeographed copy in blue-purple ink, closely matching the actual signature and postscript by Munch at bottom, handwritten in blue fountain pen. Munch reaches out to prospective buyers of his artwork in the wake of the worldwide economic crisis of 1929. German letter translates in part,
''A number of museums and private collections in Germany and other countries - including here in my home country, have shown great interest in my art and have honored me greatly - they have also made honorable offers to purchase my paintings...Unfortunately, it turns out that I, like most other painters, have to hand over my business dealings to a businessman. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to sacrifice myself for my work - I won't be able to carry out my big tasks in peace - But first I have to look through my works and choose the ones that I can sell - Nearly all of my works are not finished and I am constantly working on them - some are drafts for new works - others are already designated for specific purposes...'' Munch then handwrites, ''Edvard Munch / P.S. This letter has been sent to a number of museum directors and private collectors.''
Single page measures 8.75'' x 11.875''. Folds and chipping along edges with small area of paper loss at top. Very good condition. Accompanied by an original etching by Munch titled ''Kinderkopf'' (Child's Head), measuring 9.125'' x 12.75''.
