John Hancock document signed as Governor of Massachusetts, with unique Revolutionary War association. Dated 18 January 1792, Hancock approves payment to Colonel Lewis de Marsequelle as Inspector of the Foundries for the Commonwealth. An expert in cannon manufacturing, the Frenchman de Marsequelle offered his services during the Revolutionary War to establish and supervise cannon foundries. The offer was gladly accepted by the Colonists, and de Marsequelle continued in this role after the War. Document measures 7.25'' x 8.25''. Folds, with archival tape repair to verso. Very good condition with a prominent signature by Hancock.
