Letter from Broadway producer Walter Starcke to Jane Deacy, with lengthy content on James Dean's acting. Dated 8 June 1955, Starcke writes in part, ''As you know, we saw James Dean the day he left for Texas. Of course, if he has read the play and is no longer interested, this letter has little point, but otherwise I would like to go on record as to my feelings. / Though I had not agreed with the people who have claimed that Dean was Brando-ish in EDEN, I did want to see him in person...I see now how very wrong those people really are. There is no doubt that he has a very valid and individual talent...I was a bit worried about the gentleness and simplicity necessary...Now I see that Dean has all of that, and - if you will pardon the arty-sounding word - a poetic quality that will certainly separate him from the Clift, Brando category...'' With pencil notes at top mentioning Marfa, the Texas town where ''Giant'' filmed. Two page letter on two sheets of Starcke's personal stationery measures 7.25'' x 10.25''. Very good condition. From the estate of James Dean's agent, Jane Deacy.
