Retained copy of the letter to James Dean from his agent Jane Deacy, dated 11 June 1954 while Dean was apparently very busy filming ''East of Eden''. Deacy writes to Dean in care of his father, Winton Dean, with whom he was staying, writing in part, ''I am enclosing your first week's check in the amount of ...$552.34''. Deacy then writes that she's paid for several of his bills, including his health insurance, and that she heard the ''rushes look very good and that [Warner Bros. executives Steve] Trilling and [William T.] Orr were very pleased with you. / I miss you very, very much. Life is very monotonous without 'that Dean boy' calling or someone calling about 'that Dean boy'...Love and Kisses, / Jane Deacy''. Two page letter on one sheet measures 8.5'' x 11''.
