Extensive handwritten and typed notes by James Dean's New York agent, Jane Deacy, regarding Dean's ''PROPOSED DEAL TO WARNERS FOR JIMMY DEAN'', referencing the contract Dean would sign for ''East of Eden'' and his subsequent films. Undated, but likely early April 1954 shortly before the contract was signed, this extensive set of notes drills down into the minutiae of the agreement including Dean's billing status and an advance on his salary. Notes comprise five pages on three sheets, with the details of the agreement in type and then Deacy's subsequent notes handwritten in green fountain pen. Some of Deacy's handwritten notes include questions directed to Dean, such as: ''...When do you want adv.? 1250 on signing of contract + 1200 6 weeks later...'' Some notes reference ''Al'', possibly referring to Albert Heit, the lawyer for Rogers Brackett who was suing Dean at this time for unpaid hotel bills and cash advances, a potentially embarrassing situation for Dean as he was about to sign the Warners contract. Deacy also writes, ''It is understood + agreed that the artist shall receive first star billing over the title of the show in no less than 50% size type of the title of the show, in all forms of advertising...'' Other handwritten notes include, ''...leave to lawyers protection for studio & Jimmy...'', ''how much time should Jimmy have in which to tell Warners whether or not he gives them further options...Take out any arbitration - only to top producer...'major producer' or shall have major release''. Each sheet measures 8.5'' x 11''. Heavy toning and chipping with minor loss of content. Overall in fair condition. With many more details about Dean's historic contract with Warner Brothers.
