Hunter S. Thompson letter, dated 4 November while working on ''Hell's Angels'', composed on a postcard postmarked 1965. Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin in part, ''Where did we see that thing about the 'sergeants' keeping the world honest? I remember reading it with you somewhere around, but I can't remember where it was or who wrote it. It's awful bullshit and I want a copy so I can nail it sometime. Last night finished 35 pages of chapter 1 and will send it off next week. Terrible fatigue here. No word from Playboy...Send word -- H'', with Thompson circling his initial in red pen and also handwriting at top, ''Do you have a copy of that Life piece on Mailer?'' Thompson also handwrites the address panel for Semonin, then living in New York City. Postcard measures 5.5'' x 3.25''. Near fine condition.
