Kate Douglas Wiggin's signed copy of her novel ''Mother Carey's Chickens'', which was twice adapted into film in 1938 and 1963, the latter starring Hayley Mills. New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1911. Wiggin signs the front free endpaper, ''Yours sincerely / Kate Douglas Wiggin''. Wiggin was an important reformer of children's education at the turn of the century, as the first person to found a free kindergarten school in San Francisco in 1878. Her passion for children's rights carried over to her successful career as an author of children's books. Illustrated book measures 5.25'' x 7.75''. Separation starting at joints and some soiling to boards. Previous owner's name on front pastedown. Overall in good condition.
