Rembrandt Peale autograph letter signed, dated 10 June 1860 from Philadelphia, just months before his death. Peale writes to a patron regarding the completion of his painting ''Coast Scene'', in full, ''I have sent to the charge of Messrs. Williams and Everett, a picture which I finished last autumn - A sea piece much enlarged from a small study by Schmidt - scene of Brighton in England. This translation from the small study makes it effectively as an original. I painted it with much pleasure as the most natural effect of water I had ever seen. / Having, through your polite attention, a lively conviction of your taste for our art, I take the liberty to request you will look at my Picture to see if it may be worthy to be added to your collection, as my production at the age of 82...Rembrandt Peale''. Composed on two pages of card-style bifolium stationery, measuring 9.5'' x 7.75''. Writing in other hands regarding the identification of ''Coast Scene'', small pinholes and remnants of mounting on verso. Very good condition.
