Two original albumen prints from 1890 and 1891, taken by Northwestern Photo Co. of Chadron, Nebraska, whose company is well known for documenting the aftermath of the Wounded Knee massacre. Both photographs are published in ''Eyewitness at Wounded Knee''. The first shows a company of the 8th U.S. Infantry commanded by Captain Augustus W. Corliss, which acted as the artillery force during the fighting. The second photo shows Blue Whirlwind - a survivor of Wounded Knee, and her three young children; the family is without their father, Spotted Thunder, who was killed in the battle. Photos measure 7'' x 4.25'', affixed to an album mat measuring 10'' x 7''. Both photos numbered in the negative, Nos. 73 and 1501 respectively. Some buckling and staining to mat. Photos are in very good plus condition, with strong contrast.
