Very flattering essay by William Shatner on Leonard Nimoy's commitment and understanding of his ''Star Trek'' character Spock. In this signed handwritten recollection, Shatner references Nimoy's invention of the famous ''Vulcan nerve pinch'' as well as the ''Live Long and Prosper'' finger greeting. Shatner writes in full, ''We were in the midst of production on Star Trek. There was machinery around us as part of the scene. Somehow Spock and Kirk were fighting and I was using my boxing and Judo activities in dealing blows and subduing the enemies. At one point Leonard said 'Spock wouldn't be fighting' and the director said 'What do you suggest' and Leonard said 'Well he'd do something like this' and he reached over and grabbed my shoulder and playing along I pretended to fall to the ground as immobile - I got up we all laughed and Leonard has invented the Spock pinch - It was brilliant - He knew his character, he understood the philosophy by which Spock lived and flawlessly used it to invent a moment of action that was tottally [sic] motivated by character - He did quite often. The spread finger greeting - I don't remember how live long and prosper was invented. I think it was a product of one of our writers but it was no doubt an inspiration given by the uniqueness of Leonard's portrayal. / William Shatner''. Single page on Shatner's personal stationery measures 7.25'' x 10.25''. Near fine condition. Also with an LOA by William Shatner.
William Shatner Praises Leonard Nimoy as Spock: ''...Leonard has invented the Spock pinch - It was brilliant - He knew his character, he understood the philosophy by which Spock lived...''
