Dwight Eisenhower signs ''Ike'' clearly in black to a letter typed on his personal stationery dated 2 September 1964. Addressed to his brother Edgar, interesting letter on extremism in politics reads: ''...Thank you for the pamphlet by Admiral [Ben] Moreell. I have known him long; he was a fine businessman. He seems to assume the position of a high priest in giving his own definitions to different areas in the spectrum of political thinking...he gives a list of tenets of a political doctrine he calls 'Constitutional Conservatism'. That is a rather odd term. Why would not the term 'Constitutionalists' be sufficient? In any event, his outline of a 'Constitutional Conservative' is almost identical with my outline of what I call a 'responsible progressive.' Some others refer to it as 'middle of the roader.' This he derides, yet extremists, of whatever classification are always wrong...'' Letter measures 7'' x 10.5''. Punch holes and faint fold lines, else near fine.
