''American Archives: Fifth Series. Containing a Documentary History of The United States of America from the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776 to the Definitive Treaty of Peace With Great Britain, September 3, 1783'' by Peter Force. Volume III. Washington: January, 1853. Contents include numerous period letters, speeches and resolutions from the Continental Congress documenting the American Revolution as it unfolded. Peter Force, a nineteenth century mayor of Washington, was better known as a collector of historical documents on the Revolutionary War; Congress purchased his collection in 1867 and used it to establish the Library of Congress. Book runs 1891 pages and measures 9.25'' x 14''. The fold-out copy of the Declaration of Independence is not included here. Leather upon backstrip is flaking with missing fragments but gilt title is intact. Back hinge exposes binding. Good to very good condition. An important reference book on the American Revolution.
