Chester A. Arthur document signed as President, appointing a Commissioner to inspect railroads. Dated 25 April 1883, Arthur appoints ''Albert Ordway of Washington, D.C.'' as a ''Commissioner to examine and report upon twenty-five miles of railroad constructed by the Northern Pacific Railroad Company on the Rocky Mountain Division of said Company's line in Montana Territory''. Document is countersigned by Secretary of the Interior, H.M. Teller. Signed ''Chester A. Arthur'' at right, document also includes Department of Interior raised seal at left. Measures 19'' x 15''. Folds and minor foxing, overall very good plus condition, with a bold signature by Arthur.
