White House dinner invitation from James Madison in 1809. Partially printed invitation reads: ''J. MADISON requests the favor of Mr. Shaw to dine with him on Tuesday next at 4 o'clock / An answer is requested / Nov. 14th''. Upon a second sheet (that was once connected to the invitation in a card-style format) is written ''Dr. Shaw''. At the time of this invitation, Madison was living in the White House before the British burned it in 1814. Each page measures 7.75'' x 5''. Moderate wear with toning, a chip to lower left and tears starting along folds. Very good condition given age.
