British poet Lord Byron signs a free frank "Byron", dated 1812, the year of which he wrote, "I awoke one morning and found myself famous." Lord Byron hand addresses the envelope to a Mr. Darland in "Notts" and writes the return, "London July twenty ninth 1812". Envelope bears a faint rubber postal stamping in red ink. Measures 5.5" x 3". A pencil notation in an unknown hand identifying Byron as "the famous poet" is present. Foxing, creasing and minor staining. Very good condition.
