George Custer signed envelope lot. Comprises 26 envelopes made out in Custer's hand to his wife ''Mrs. Genl Custer'', including one envelope addressed, ''Mrs. Genl GA Custer''. George Custer married Elizabeth ''Libby'' Clift Bacon in 1864 after overcoming her family's initial disapproval. Envelopes are sent to Libby at a variety of locations: Monroe and Gross Isle, MI; Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley, KS; Ft. Lincoln, Dacota [sic]; Elizabethtown, KY; New Brunswick, NJ; Canandaigua, NY; and ''339 Penn Ave.'' All but 4 still have 3-cent stamps affixed. Postmarks bear the city and date without the year. Envelopes measure from 5.25'' x 4'' to 4.75'' x 3''. Expected toning, uneven tearing to right edge from opening and damp-staining to some. Pieces range from good to very good condition with large, bold and clear writing.
