WWII Iwo Jima hero Rene Gagnon envelope signed, postmarked 12 June 1943 from Parris Island, South Carolina where he was training as a Marine. Gagnon writes his full name, ''Pvt. Rene Arthur Gagnon'' upon the envelope, addressed to his girlfriend, Pauline Harnois. Upon the back of the envelope, Gagnon thoughtfully writes, ''You might think that someone tried to open these letters but there [sic] just that way because the heat makes them stick together''. Measures 7.25'' x 3.75''. Very good.
