World-famous Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso pair of hand-drawn caricatures. Portraits in pencil and red pencil are certainly representations of Caruso's contemporary Pol Plancon, the famed bass from France. Portrait on the left shows Plancon in hard profile, the prominent bridge of his nose exaggerated by Caruso. Portrait on the right is an oblique view of the singer, whose eyes Caruso accentuated by varying the color of pencil. Plancon was renowned for his vocal quality and precision and, with Caruso, was among the earliest vocal artists to pioneer recorded music. Caruso was the first to sell a million records at the dawn of the medium. His distinctive drawing style is evident in this sketch, rendered on a single sheet of Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires stationery. Viewable area measures 10.5'' x 6.75''. Matted in white to an overall size of 14.5'' x 10.5''. Toning and creasing and a numerical pencil notation to the corner of mat, else near fine.
