Martha Washington personally owned piece of lace. Intricate lace was part of lot 2134 of the auction of items from the Tobias Lear family, held by James D. Julia on 5 February 2010. Colonel Tobias Lear married into Martha Washington's family by wedding her niece, and served as Washington's personal secretary from 1784 until Washington's death at Mount Vernon, for which he was present in 1799. Washington's map of Yorktown sold at the same auction for a world-record breaking amount of $1.15 million, the most ever paid for a map. Lace measures approximately 9.5" x 3.25". Near fine.
