Handwritten document dated 17 August 1874 pardons one William Faircloth of North Carolina, who was ''...convicted of retailing liquor without paying the required special tax...'' Signed ''U. S. Grant'' and countersigned by the Secretary of State, with a seal affixed. Runs 2pp. on a large card-style sheet, measuring 10.75'' x 15.5''. Toning, creasing, stain to the top edge and much separation of segments along folds, though mostly to integral blank. Document is in good condition and has been custom encased in a transparent protective cover but not laminated.
