Andrea Castanon de Villanueva, better known as Madame Candelaria, matte sepia photo. Madame Candelaria is reported to have nursed Jim Bowie during the siege of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. ''Madam Candelaria / Only survivor of the Alamo / 113/4 years old / Born in Laredo, Tex.'' is written on the verso of the 4'' x 5.75'' photo mounted to a 4.25'' x 6.5'' cabinet card. Moderate soiling and chipping, else very good.
